Adrian Cauthen, 33, and Frances Marino, 33, both of Bridgeport, were arrested Thursday, Jan. 23, were charged in connection with hitting the off-duty fireman who was crossing Stratford Avenue when he was hit and left in the roadway, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran.
According to Gilleran, Erique McCalla, 46, was crossing Stratford Avenue around 11:18 p.m., June 28, 2019, when he was struck by a vehicle.
The vehicle turned northbound onto East Main Street, stopped briefly, and then fled the scene, police said.
McCalla was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with multiple serious injuries including a collapsed lung and 9 broken ribs.
Cauthen was charged with evading responsibility/serious physical harm, tampering with evidence, interfering with a police officer, assault, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
He is being held on a $20,000 bond.
Marino was charged with evading responsibility/serious physical injury, tampering with evidence, and interfering with a police officer.
Marino has a $10,000 court set bond.
"Officer Cynthia Dolyak and Officer John Perry conducted the investigation they are commended for doing an outstanding job and bringing this case to conclusion," Gilleran said.
